THE HISTORY OF SILVAR KENNELS

Our interest in showing dogs began in 1980 when Sheri attended her first dog show in Corpus Christi, Texas. There she fell in love with the Siberian Huskies.

In 1981 she got her first show dogs and began to show in earnest. One of our early dogs was a little bitch named Oshvah's Silvar Shadow, "Silly." Silvar never finished her championship due to a bout with pyometria which ended in a spay. Silvar passed away in 1995. She was a true lady and is sorely missed. It is in her honor that the kennel is named.

For the next 12 years, Sheri had what can only be discribed as miserable luck. She had 11 different Siberians with the following results: 3 sets of cataracts, 1 PRA, 1 Pyometria, 1 oversize, 1 bad bite, 1 bad rear and 3 bad temperaments (1 aggressive, 2 spooks.) You can bet she was at her wits ends and was about to shuck the entire dog game, completely.

Then, by chance, Travis entered our lives. He was a dream dog for us. He loved to show, would rather hunt birds than eat and is extremely easy to live with. He introduced us to the world of hunt tests and field work and the German Wirehaired Pointer Club of America.

That was all we needed to convince us GWP's were for us! Today, Silvar Kennels is happy to report our luck has changed!
