Silvar's Who's On First "Striker" (age 3 years) was my next hope for our program here at Silvar Kennels. A big, strapping boy, he easily won everyone's heart, was easily winning in the show ring and was a terrific ambassador for the breed. Then one day I came home from work to find him favoring his left rear leg. By the next morning, the stifle joint was hot, hard and swollen. A trip to the vet's indicated an infection in the joint. We treated it and he seemed to get better. We continued to show him and began to introduce him to agility. However, we noticed that he seemed to periodically favor that leg, particularly after exercise. A trip to the orthopedic specialist indicated what had been missed before. He had actually torn his ACL. Today, 18 months after surgery and much physical therapy, it has become apparent that he will always have a limp in that leg. That, of course, makes him ineligible for any formal competition, and limits the amount of hobby hunting, agility or other physical exercise he can do. Somehow, during that entire process, he also became quite unsure of himself. When he meets a stranger now, he is uncertain, and begin to heavily favor the leg, even tho' he's not done anything to injure it. However, once he gets to know you a little bit, he's trying to crawl into your lap! Striker will need a home that simply wants to love him and is willing to work with him through his insecurity. He is now neutered, microchipped and up to date on his shots. If you think you can give Striker his forever home, please contact us by email at sheri@silvar.com.
